DAY WITH(OUT) ART / WORLD AIDS DAY 2012

To mark its 23rd annual observance of Day With(out) Art and World AIDS Day, l.a.Eyeworks invited dozens of friends from the arts and services communities to select a song they would like to have played to commemorate this important day. Each person was invited to submit not only a song, but a description of themselves and a note about the selection if they liked.

l.a.Eyeworks is the proud recipient of a D.A.R.E. Award (Dispensing and Retail Excellence) from top optical arbiter Vision Monday magazine. The awards honor "daring optical retailers and dispensers from North America."

l.a.Eyeworks took home the Resistance is Futile Award for Most Daring Advertising Campaign, honoring especially our window slogans and installations. You can read all about it here.

In our submission essay, we wrote: "Whether pointing to social questions, political absurdities, gender issues, cultural obsessions, or to gargantuan pumpkins at the holidays, the self-named 'window wonders' of l.a.Eyeworks aim to amplify the collective understanding of 'vision' and 'seeing' as expansive concepts, full of optimistic possibility."

 

REMY CHARLIP (1929-2012)

l.a.Eyeworks raises its glasses to celebrate the life of American artist Remy Charlip, who passed away yesterday at the age of 83. Although a stroke had impacted his prolific abilities, Remy generously agreed to pick up his illustrator's pen for us in 2010 to create a "dance for the eyes" as a cleaning cloth design. Remy was always proud of this project, and for us, it will always be a great honor.

BREAKFAST FOR DINNER

Breakfast for Dinner, a band of L.A.-based filmmakers/foodies, have created an impressive series of videos that push the boundaries of food styling and presentation. From animation to pure absurdity, Breakfast For Dinner's video series is like a glimpse in to what The Food Network does--or would like to do--after hours.

In Episode 45: Coffee and Cigarettes, l.a.Eyeworks frames Minnow and Bent have walk-on parts in a caffeine- and noir-drenched episode that will leave your Hario Buono Drip Kettle boiling!
