FRAME OF THE WEEK | TWO FRESNO

In 1986, Halley’s Comet zoomed close to Earth, and l.a.Eyeworks created a trendsetting buzz in the optical world when it introduced the model Fresno with a sun clip. The look became immediately iconic. For Fresno’s 25th birthday, l.a.Eyeworks introduces Two Fresno, updating the chassis in lightweight titanium while maintaining classic metallic finishes and details like coined patterning on the frame’s edges.

The original Fresno, and other classically cool frames with clips can be seen on Schwarzenegger, Anthony Delon and Jean-Hughes Anglade in l.a.Eyeworks' legendary ad campaign, shot by Greg Gorman.

   

CURIOUS CASE OF JOHN KELLY

l.a.Eyeworks's ad campaign features some of the most influential contemporary artists. As this year comes to a close, we are thrilled to have John Kelly, wearing Hanko, join the family of faces that have been photographed by Greg Gorman for l.a.Eyeworks' timeless ad campaign!

John Kelly is a renaissance person in not-so-renaissance times. A performance and visual artist, John describes himself as an aesthetic octopus whose curious arms explore creative territories encompassing almost every modern artistic discipline. As a painter, dancer, actor, vocalist, photographer, opera director, illustrator,  videographer, author, tightrope walker, and trapeze artist, Kelly's daringly imaginative work has been recognized by many notable awards, including two Bessies, two Obies, a Rome Prize, a Guggenheim, an NEA grant, and an Art Matters grant to name only a few. Along the way, John Kelly has investigated, inhabited, and illuminated the lives of a compelling cast of cultural instigators including Egon Schiele, Caravaggio, the Mona Lisa, Antonin Artaud, Joni Mitchell, and Jean Cocteau as markers of his own restless creativity and the complex nature of our times.

A TIARA FOR TYRA

Take a gander at one of l.a.Eyeworks' newest faces, wearing Fortuna, for our legendary ad campaign "A face is like a work of art...".  Shot by Greg Gorman, Tyra Sanchez ascended to the glittering pantheon of drag royalty as the grand prize winning diva of the second season of RuPaul's Drag Race. Whether portraying a rocker chick, a cowgirl, a bride, or a bathing beauty, the other Tyra transformed herself from challenge to challenge with undeniable flair and dazzling style. Although other contestants called into question her idea of being America's Sweetheart, Tyra Sanchez proved by the end that a drag queen's heart could truly be as big as her hair!

Love is Blond!

Phillipe Blond channels his chiseled charisma in l.a.Eyeworks' sizzling new frame Kowalski.  Photographed by Greg Gorman for our legendary “A face is like a work of art . . . “ campaign, Phillipe is one half of the red-hot dashing design duo, The Blonds, known for their over-the-top custom corsets that have cinched celebrity curves from Britney to Beyoncé.  The Blonds appeared most recently on Bravo’s Make Me a Supermodel, where the gender-blasting Phillipe threw more than a little shade on the aspiring posers.  Whether he’s framed by platinum tresses or a phenomenal frame, Phillipe is on fire!
